On June 20th, we covered claims from Italy that Tottenham Hotspur are keen on signing Sampdoria’s Giovanni Leoni.

At the weekend, La Repubblica stated Spurs could be drawn into a bidding war with Serie A sides to sign the 17-year-old in the summer window.

This is backed up by Tuttosport, who then share their own updates on Tottenham’s efforts regarding the centre-back.

Sampdoria have already made the youngster’s stay permanent after signing him on loan from Padova in the winter market.

Leoni made 12 appearances for Sampdoria last season and his performances have seen Inter Milan, Napoli and Torino all line up to secure his services. The report states these clubs are now facing ‘increasingly strong competition’ from Tottenham and AS Monaco.

It’s claimed Ange Postecoglou’s side have already asked for information about the young defender.

Sampdoria have to raise funds to make any further additions to their squad next season. Tuttosport say their objective is to sell the Italy U18 international for €5-6m and get him back on loan for one season.

Tottenham have an opportunity to carry out an affordable deal if they are willing to let the youngster return to Sampdoria on loan next season

A really interesting deal which could provide a bargain for Spurs, and a possibility which looks like it may have the mid of Fabio Paratici involved somewhere.
