With the English media now claiming that Liverpool have engaged in a chase for Sporting defender Gonçalo Inácio, the Portuguese press has a response to it.

According to A Bola, the Reds have already been told the conditions to sign the centre-back this summer.

It’s said Sporting will use the player’s €60m release clause as protection, and won’t accept negotiating for less than that.

The outlet claims that Liverpool’s interest ‘is not new’, recalling that when Ruben Amorim was linked to the Anfield job, there was big talk about Inácio following him to Anfield.

The defender, however, is considered one of the most important elements in Sporting’s squad, and that’s why they don’t even consider selling him for a lower price.

By making an approach for Inácio, Liverpool seem to join Manchester United in the race for him, as the Portuguese media recently highlighted the Red Devils’ interest as well.

Since both clubs could trigger the release clause, there could be a scenario where the player himself has to choose which of them to sign for.

There may also be room for negotiation on the methods of payment of the clause.
