There’s a lot going on in Italy at the moment, namely the media’s obsession in returning Antonio Conte where he belongs, which is at the helm of one of Serie A’s big teams.
Thursday’s Gazzetta dello Sport report Inter are prepared to do pretty much everything possible to convince him to leave Stamford Bridge, including giving him a blank cheque in the transfer window.
Sounds great, right? The problem is, they can’t do that without selling a few players to rid themselves of FFP restrictions, and that includes the one they can probably get the most money for: Ivan Perisic.
This isn’t the first time the Italian newspaper has claimed José Mourinho is very keen on Perisic, even going as far as stating he would be prepared to spend €60m on the 28-year-old.
As well as the proposed move to Old Trafford, Gazzetta explain Chelsea have made their interest very clear, which improves the chances of Inter Milan getting the €55-60m they need to have a good transfer window, paving the way for Antonio Conte’s huge spending spree at the San Siro.
There’s just one problem with that: if the Blues’ manager is the one that wants Ivan Perisic in the first place at Stamford Bridge, why would he buy him to then go to Inter Milan? Surely he would want him there?
It doesn’t make a lot of sense.
Chelsea’s interest in the player is chiefly linked to Antonio Conte, and while Manchester United could very well provide the funds instead, if the former Juventus manager wants him so badly, he’d probably tell Inter Milan not to sell him before taking the role.
Not sure if Gazzetta have thought this one through, to be honest with you.
