Leeds United’s failure to get back into the Premier League has undoubtedly caused a big transfer headache for them, and another name to add to that list of problems to be fixed is Maximilian Wöber.
That’s according to Frankfurter Rundschau, who cover the defender today and Borussia Mönchengladbach’s desire to sign him on a permanent basis.
The defender has been on loan with the German side this season, establishing himself as a key player in their defence and earning plenty of plaudits as a result.
They’re keen on a permanent move, with his potential departure considered a ‘painful’ event to be avoided, and Leeds’ failure to get back to the Premier League helps in that regard.
It seems they’re hopeful that Leeds’ desperation for money will see them lower their demands and make a permanent move possible this summer.
Selling a loan player, and one who has made it clear he’d prefer not to play for Leeds in the Championship at that, ‘would make sense’ but there is also an argument that he could help them next season too.
There is also a potential third option, and that is Wöber having earned interest from other more financially stronger clubs thanks to his performances in Germany this season.
Either way, he’s yet another player for Leeds to deal with this summer, with their play-off defeat causing a big transfer headache that they’ll now have to start working to ease.
