Giorgi Mamardashvili would leave a ‘void impossible to fill’ at Valencia this summer if Newcastle get their wish and sign him.
That’s according to Sport, who say that the goalkeeper has stood out as one of the best in Europe at the Mestalla and that will prove difficult to replace.
The newspaper reports that barring a surprise, Mamardashvili will be leaving Valencia this summer, with Newcastle the latest club to push for him.
They first made contact with Valencia about a potential move earlier this month and have been pushing over the last week or so to find an agreement with the Spanish side for the Georgian goalkeeper.
That will leave a void, say Sport, who say the player has perhaps grown to be bigger than the club he plays for during his time at Valencia.
That’s because his progress since arriving in 2021 has been ‘meteoric’ and he’s developed into a player who has everything in his locker. He is tall, strong in the arm, has excellent reach and has a knack of making game winning interventions. He is even improving with the ball at his feet.
Thus, he is ‘one of the jewels of the market’ and why Newcastle have moved to get him now rather than say, after the Euros, where he could impress and push up his asking price.
Either way, a sale is now seemingly expected and when he does go, he’ll be leaving behind a huge hole to fill for whoever arrives as his replacement.
