Earlier this week, we covered claims from the Dutch press that Yankuba Minteh will return to Newcastle United after his loan spell at Feyenoord, and the Magpies want to see him during pre-season before making a decision on his future.
The Eredivisie side were also urged to make an attempt to retain the Newcastle owned player beyond this season.
Voetbal International journalist Martijn Krabbendam, who covers Feyenoord, was a guest on Dick Voormekaar Podcast Extra, where he discussed the winger’s future, and his comments are relayed by FR12.nl.
“Newcastle United is having a bit of trouble with financial fair play rules, I heard this week. They might consider selling Minteh,” he said.
If this were to be the case, the journalist insists Feyenoord can give up on the possibility of buying the Gambian in the next window.
“Then Feyenoord has no chance. They just can’t afford that. He is worth more than €20m. That’s going to be some work to replace him,” Krabbendam explained.
Minteh has starred for the Dutch club this season, scoring 11 goals and registering six assists from 36 games. Former Feyenoord midfielder Willem van Hanegem has urged the Eredivisie side to make an effort to extend the Newcastle man’s stay.
“I tell you; if I were Feyenoord, I would always bring him in,” he told Algemeen Dagblad’s Willem&Wessel podcast, relayed by Soccer News.
