Last month, Fotboll Direkt reported Tottenham Hotspur were helping Djurgårdens IF’s Theo Bergvall recover from an injury.
The defender’s brother, Lucas Bergvall, will move to Tottenham in the summer after they agreed a deal with the Swedish club in February.
After being on the sidelines for over two months, Theo returned to action in his side’s latest win over Elfsborg. He has now thanked Tottenham for playing a role in his recovery and his comments are relayed by Expressen.
It was initially suspected Theo picked up an injury in training before being diagnosed with ‘compartment syndrome’. The report claims this was only found out with the help of the north London club.
“It had previously been ruled out as a concern. It was a lot of work. It took a while, but now I’m just glad it’s fixed.”
Lucas Bergvall also heaped praise on Tottenham for stepping in to help his brother.
“Very nice and great of them to help. It was great for my brother to come back from his injury,” Lucas explained.
When asked who requested Tottenham’s help for Theo, he said: “Well, maybe it was Bosse [Andersson, sporting director] a little more.”
Theo replaced Lucas against Elfsborg and is hoping to play with his brother until he moves to Tottenham. The fullback says he won’t be surprised if Lucas were to start under Ange Postecoglou next season.
“It will be fun for him to go away, but it will be tough of course to play without him. It will be a big step [to start for Spurs] for him, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he did,” Theo added.
