Leeds United star Joel Piroe has again insisted they can make it back to the Premier League this season, insisting he moved to Elland Road because he was confident of that fact.
Piroe has been speaking to Voetbalzone in the Netherlands regarding his career to date, life at Leeds so far and what may come next for both him and the club.
The forward joined Leeds from Swansea in the summer and hasn’t looked back since, establishing himself as a key player under Daniel Farke and managed ten goals and one assist in 29 games in the Championship this season.
His performances have helped Leeds to overcome a relatively slow start to the campaign to catapult themselves up the table and into third, just a point behind Southampton in second place, although the Saints do have a game in hand.
It means they are right on course to try and secure promotion back to the Premier League at the first time of asking following last season’s disappointing relegation back to the second flight.
“One of my ambitions is to play in the Premier League,” he said.
“That’s why I thought it would be better to choose a club that really wants promotion. Leeds expresses that. The club wants to return immediately after last year’s relegation.
“I can really carve out a place at Leeds, so that I will be there if we manage to get promoted to the Premier League. Last summer I already had options in that competition, but then you sometimes choose a club that has to fight against relegation, or you are brought in as the nineteenth player.
“Leeds give me confidence and I must say that the level of our selection is absolutely comparable to the Premier League.
“I believe in our mission. Whether it is direct promotion or through the play-offs; I think we are strong enough to achieve it. Our selection is strong enough for the Premier League, I am convinced of that.”
