Portuguese newspaper O Jogo today features an interview with Diego Moreira, who left Benfica for Chelsea last summer.
Even though the Blues loaned him out to Lyon as soon as he arrived, they’ve just got him back in their squad for the rest of the season.
The 19-year-old now claims to be excited about his comeback to Chelsea, confident that he’ll be able to help Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
“It was a very good experience, even though the situation at the club wasn’t easy. I’ve grown up and around me there were players of great quality and experience, with several titles to their name. Chelsea decided to let me come back, I’m motivated, I have to do my best to impose myself and end the season in the best possible way,” Diego Moreira told O Jogo.
Moreira also talked about Pochettino, claiming he’s been an important coach for him.
“He helped me a lot in pre-season with his care and advice. In a week’s time, I expect to be at his service.”
Moreira had made only nine appearances for Lyon, with no goals or assists, and that’s probably the reason why he and Chelsea thought it wouldn’t be worth spending the rest of the season at the French side.
His only appearance for the Blues was at the start of the season, when he played in the EFL Cup clash against AFC Wimbledon, before he was sent out on loan. Now he’s waiting to get another chance at the club.
Having signed for free from Benfica last summer, Moreira has a contract with Chelsea until 2028.
