Tottenham could make an ‘important offer’ for Real Madrid star Brais Méndez but may need as much as €60m for him.
That’s according to Sport, who confirm reports that Tottenham are interested in the midfielder but insist the Premier League leaders need to spend big to get him.
They explain that with five goals and five assists this season, Méndez has been showing that he is ‘pure talent’ and one of the key players for La Real.
His ‘magnificent numbers’ both in the league and in the Champions League have been earning him admirers and Tottenham are one of them.
According to their information, they ‘could prepare an important offer’ for the January transfer window but, if they do, they’ll likely have to pay his €60m release clause.
Méndez signed for Real Sociedad from Celta de Vigo for €14m but is valued at €30m after his impressive performances so far this season.
That’s only pushing his value further up and closer to his €60m release clause, which is included in his contract, which runs until 2028. In other words, Real Sociedad are under no pressure to sell him at any point in the near future.
Whether Tottenham are willing to pay such a figure remains to be seen but their interest is there nonetheless, and the transfer idea seems to be growing, at least in Spain.
