Clearly far from Unai Emery’s plans at Aston Villa, Morgan Sanson used last season’s loan at RC Strasbourg to increase his stock in France once again. It worked a treat, as OGC Nice then swiftly moved to get the midfielder on loan with an option to buy, which will have delighted everyone involved in the deal.
After all, the 28-year-old now gets a chance to prove everyone who doubted him at Aston Villa wrong without having to fear about adapting, since he knows his home country and the league like the back of his hand.
Sanson was interviewed by Nice-Matin on Friday, where he was asked a series of questions about various topics, including his transfer.
Asked why he chose Nice, he said: “I didn’t come here for the sun. Nice are an ambitious club, and they corresponded to what I wanted. The talks were good, and I had a really good feeling with everyone. It was the best option for me.”
Then came the question about Aston Villa, and Sanson didn’t hold back: “It was complicated, I’m not going to hide that. I never played two games in a row as a starter. It was no longer possible to prove myself there. It didn’t click, shame for me. I made the right choice of going on loan at Strasbourg to get going again. Villa fans were always asking me why I wasn’t playing because I was always performant on the pitch when I did.”
Having had great spells at Montpellier and Marseille in the past in Ligue 1, which got him close to a France national team spot in the past, the Aston Villa loanee now believes he has a chance of getting up there again if he can perform well at Nice.
