Newcastle United star Bruno Guimarães has spoken to Charla Podcast in Brazil, in an interview which lasted an hour and a half.
That was certainly a big conversation about his career and especially his time with the Magpies, where he’s clearly very happy.
Bruno Guimarães recalled his move to Newcastle. In quotes relayed by Premier League Brasil, he explained how he ended up deciding to join the club.
“I was scared to go, but it was an offer I couldn’t refuse and my dream was to play in the Premier League. I knew about the new owners of the club, I knew that everything was changing. I knew I was going to play with Trippier, he was a big name. I said ‘You know what? I’m going up, I’m going to take a risk’. And the following year, we went to a final, we went to the Champions League,” Bruno Guimarães told Charla Podcast.
“What they do is pick up kids for the future. They’re picking up 21, 22-year-olds, who in about five years will be at their best, you know? I think that’s really cool. And another thing: you can’t spend like crazy because of financial fair play. In England it’s kind of complicated.”
The midfielder also talked about Newcastle’s qualification for the Champions League, explaining that was more than the Magpies expected at the start of last season.
“When we started the Premier League, our goal was to be among the top eight. We started to believe. We were in third place for most of the league and fell to fourth, but already qualified for the Champions League.”
The interview is getting big coverage in Brazil, not only because Bruno Guimarães said he ‘hates’ playing against Manchester City, but also because he spoke about having big love for Vasco da Gama, and that will undoubtedly turn into big transfer rumours in a few years.
