Earlier today, we covered claims from Spain that Barcelona chief Mateu Alemany is likely on his way to Aston Villa this summer.
On Tuesday, the La Liga side announced the 60-year-old will leave them on June 30th, even though his deal lasts until 2024. Marca now explain why he has decided to leave Barca for the Villans.
Aston Villa have been chasing the sporting director for a long time and their insistence has paid off. They made a very tempting offer which will allow the Spaniard to vastly improve his salary.
Alemany would also lead the Premier League side’s attracting sporting project and money will be made available to make new signings, with the insinuation it will be a big budget.
Marca state Joan Laporta interferes in his work, even if the Barcelona president doesn’t understand it. The latter even takes recommendations from agents over those who work at the club.
Alemany is also displeased with those people at the club who want to take decisions even without having any knowledge. He doesn’t have a huge say when offering new deals to a few current players and also in bringing in new players.
In addition to this, Barca’s difficult economic situation and constant leaks from the club to the media about transfers makes Alemany’s work even more difficult. He’s not pleased with the leaks, especially because the club had decided not to give out any information.
These reasons, coupled with the opportunity to lead Aston Villa’s ambitious project has convinced Alemany to leave Barcelona for Unai Emery’s side.
