For a period in January, Celtic were scouting Belenenses, and their interest in the Portuguese club led to claims of an agreed deal to buy Fabio Sturgeon. Given the scouting, we suggested that Sturgeon could be a reasonable target for Celtic, given he’d been linked with Brendan Rodgers previously, but it was merely speculation.
A week or so later, Sturgeon signed for Vitoria, and the 23 year old continues his development.
Since then Brendan Rodgers hadn’t sent any of his spies to Belenenses, but that changed on Sunday as Celtic had an official watch the match against Chaves, report A Bola.
Belenenses won 2-1 and there were no hugely stand out performances for Celtic to be impressed by.
Celtic regularly scout Portuguese football and that’s probably a Rodgers instruction, given that similar happened at Liverpool when he was manager of the Premier League club.
