Barcelona have asked about a deal for Manchester United’s Mason Greenwood this summer after his performances for Getafe this season.
That’s according to Getafe president Ángel Torres, who says he has spoken to the Catalan side about the forward.
Greenwood is currently on loan at Getafe from Manchester United, having joined the Spanish side in the summer and gone on to become a regular, managing eight goals and six assists in 29 games so far.
His current loan deal does not include an option for Getafe to make it permanent and it means his future remains something Manchester United need to deal with in the coming months.
They’re yet to make a definitive decision publically, although Torres commented earlier today and insisted that they had decided to sell.
That is likely to be dependent on whether there are any buyers for him, with Getafe keen on a permanent deal and several reports indicating there are other La Liga sides in the mix.
One of them may be Barcelona, at least according to Torres, who they asked about signing the Manchester United man when his side met with them earlier this season.
“If it depends on the boy and his parents, he will continue another year,” he said.
“Manchester United, the news we have from last week, is that if there is a good offer they would like to sell, because he won’t return there, so we will have to wait a month and a half or two months, until the end of June, but if it depends on him and the family, they are very happy and very happy with the fans.
“He hadn’t played for 16 months when he arrived and we’ve got him back, he’s scored 8 goals in the league and 2 in the cup and he’s given a great performance.
“What I think is that he is going to stay. He’s going to stay another year or half a year, until January. This year starting from scratch can be a spectacle.
“The only one I have spoken to about Greenwood, to ask about the possibility, is Laporta, the day we played, that they like him and so on, but of course, to sign, all the teams, not only Barcelona, but Atlético, Getafe, everyone, need to sell and then buy, that’s why it’s going to be a long summer.
“I spoke to Laporta and Deco, who I have a good relationship with, but the situation in Spanish football is that first you have to sell to be able to sign and that is the problem that 80% of clubs have.”
