On Monday, we saw reports from Brazil saying Grêmio tried the signing of Manchester United winger Facundo Pellistri.

It was claimed that the South American side made an ‘official offer’ to have the 21-year-old on a loan deal, but didn’t succeed with that.

Now as Grêmio vice-president Paulo Caleffi spoke to Caju Tricolor (via Portal do Gremista), he confirmed the talks for the Manchester United player.

“There was contact, this player was observed by us some time ago, but, in the first contractual information we got from him, we understood that it would be a very complicated negotiation to be carried out. “

“Last week, an intermediary sought out Grêmio, offered a deal, we followed the guidelines that were brought to us by this intermediary, we held some conversations, but fundamentally due to the short time for closing the window, we understood that it would not be possible to carry out this signing.”

It’s worth recalling that also on Monday, South American journalist Cesar Luis Merlo revealed that Manchester United want to give Pellistri a new contract, and already scheduled a meeting with his new entourage to extend his deal.

That’s an interesting sign that Erik ten Hag has plans to use the youngster in the future, since he hasn’t been getting a lot of playing time this season, with only eight appearances made so far.

But if there’s really an intermediary also offering Pellistri around, there’s probably a wish from his entourage to get a loan for him, so he may be getting some experience elsewhere before getting real chances with Manchester United.
