Villarreal beat Las Palmas 3-1 on Sunday, with the Canary Islands side not having a great time on their travels.
Indeed, they’re not having a great time generally. Las Palmas are currently stuck to the bottom of La Liga with three points from eight matches. They haven’t won a league game so far this season and are toothless in attack and generous in defence.
Wolves’ Fabio Silva was brought in to help with the former. Bringing in the attacker on loan from Wolves was seen as one way to improve Las Palmas in front of goal.
He scored his first goal against Villarreal but it didn’t make much difference. Speaking after the match, Wolves’ striker for-hire was quoted by local newspaper La Provincia as saying: “We have to take the chances we have when we have them and we have to defend a little better. I feel that when they get ahead there is always danger for Las Palmas. We have to be more secure at the back. On Saturday we have a new opportunity and we have to win no matter what.”
By get ahead, presumably he means when on the attack, because Villarreal scored the first goal of the match.
Blaming the defence may not go down well with some of the squad, but then Silva would likely say he believes the whole team should be doing more in defence.
They need to do more in midfield and attack as well, with Las Palmas already four points from safety.
Fabio Silva has described the next match as a must-win game, and the Wolves loanee will be trying to find the back of the net again against Celta Vigo on Saturday.
