Julián Álvarez arrived at Manchester City last summer after they had agreed a deal for his transfer with River Plate in January 2022.
The Citizens were successful in overcoming competition, and convinced the striker to pick them over several interested clubs, including Fiorentina.
Manchester City assistant manager Manuel Estiarte has explained how his side were able to bring the 23-year-old to the Etihad, during an interview with Radio Bruno.
“I don’t know how much Fiorentina has been on Álvarez. We were quick to get him. Our man in South America, who also took us Gabriel Jesus, was good at recommending him to us,” he said, relayed by Fiorentina Uno.
“You have to see how convinced you are to sign a player like this. Go there to observe him.”
Estiarte was also with Pep Guardiola at Barcelona and Bayern Munich. During the same interview, the Manchester City assistant manager has also revealed about Guardiola’s love towards Italian football.
That doesn’t mean the ex-Barcelona manager will leave Manchester City, where he has a contract until 2025, for the Serie A anytime soon.
“We follow Italian football. Pep loves Italy and Italian culture, we often talk about it. His dream was to work in Italy, but today the problems are different,” Alfredo Pedullà quoted Estiarte as saying.
