Tottenham Hotspur signed Pape Matar Sarr from Metz in 2021 and immediately loaned him back to the French club for the 2021/22 season.
The midfielder returned to the north London club last summer and had an opportunity to move elsewhere.
Cremonese showed interest in the 20-year-old and had come close to agreeing a deal with Tottenham.
That’s according to Sport Grigiorosso, who explain the Serie A side had ‘almost concluded the negotiations’ with Spurs for the Senegal international, but the operation didn’t take shape because Antonio Conte blocked it.
Cremonese are not the only club to have failed to sign the midfielder as Conte refused to allow him to join Salernitana in January.
Pape Matar Sarr made his Tottenham debut last month and has made six appearances in all competitions.
Injuries to Yves Bissouma and Rodrigo Bentancur means the Senegalese is likely to feature regularly for Spurs this season, and he was one of the few to impress in the recent 1-0 loss to Milan in the Champions League.
