For a very long time, Divock Origi played the part of a super-sub at Liverpool, where he was important in numerous games, coming off the bench to either seal wins or overturn difficult situations.
He was loved by Jürgen Klopp, who probably would have preferred to keep him around, but it was clear the Belgian wanted more for his career, including regular first-team football.
He therefore ran down his contract at Liverpool, and decided to head to Milan, who liked the idea of having an experienced versatile forward in their squad.
However, the injury issues he regularly faced at Anfield have continued to plague him in Italy, to the point where he has barely played under Stefano Pioli.
The 27-year-old has started just four games to date, and impacted one majorly, scoring a goal and picking up an assist in a 4-1 win over Monza.
Calciomercato have a report on him on Monday, claiming that his ‘umpteenth injury is a problem for Milan’, pointing out that he could have had a great chance against Salernitana in January to show what he can do.
His current physical issue prevents that, though, and it ‘poses yet another question mark in the face of an operation that has proved really disappointing so far’.
He should have ‘made a difference right away, but he gets hurt too often’, and if he doesn’t turn things around in 2023, then ‘Milan could decide to sell him in the summer’.
Since they didn’t pay anything for him, any income would be seen as a profit for their accounts, and they simply ‘cannot afford to wait for him’.
