Former Arsenal midfielder and now Brazilian national team coordinator Edu Gaspar is pretty confident about Gabriel Jesus’ future in the Premier League.

The former footballer was a guest on Sportv show ‘Bem Amigos’ last night, and when speaking about the new Manchester City signing, claimed the striker has the right qualities to play in such league.

Bem Amigos showed Jesus’ highlights from the game against Tottenham Hotspur, which impressed the audience due to the number of chances he had in only ten minutes.

As the 19-year-old has only been a professional for nearly two years, Gaspar was asked if his quick evolution impressed those who work with him in the national team: “In fact, it does not surprise us. From the moment we could work with Gabriel, we saw that he is an extremely focused athlete.

“He is youngster who last year achieved a great player status, but when he showed up in the Brazilian national team, it was possible to see that he will be a great, great player, at the European level, as is already happening.”

Using his experience to comment on the Premier League, Gaspar said: “He already has a great competitiveness, which he had already been presenting at Palmeiras. And the English league doesn’t allow you not to be a competitive athlete. But I don’t see Gabriel with much difficulty because I see him with the characteristics close to the matches of the English championship.

“He has physical strength, is competitive, has all the characteristics. The referee gives few fouls, you have to be strong, the matches are very even. And with him there in England, it’s good for the Brazilian team too, who have only to gain from it. To compete and to stand next to high level athletes gives you an opportunity that if you are smart, you improve too.”

Former Corinthians and Torino player Walter Casagrande, who’s also a pundit on the show, praised Jesus’ Manchester City debut and highlighted the fact he was paying attention to the game: “Gabriel Jesus has many qualities, but the most impressive is the focus. What he did, coming in with 10 minutes left, is because he’s focused. He is not sat in the seat and when the coach calls, he gets scared. He has shown that he is up to the game and that he can score in England.”
