While he has been one of the most loyal servants the club over the past years, and will undoubtedly go down as one of their legends, Sergio Busquets will eventually need replacing at Barcelona.
The 33-year-old has amassed an impressive 667 appearances for the La Liga side, during which he has scored 16 goals and assisted another 42, but his time will eventually come to an end, at which point Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Rúben Neves could take over.
That’s what Sport are suggesting on Monday, explaining that the Wolves star is an ‘option to be the replacement for Busquets’, helped by the fact his agent is Jorge Mendes, who ‘has a good relationship’ with Joan Laporta.
The Portugal international ‘could be one of the reinforcements for Fútbol Club Barcelona for the next transfer market’, according to the outlet, as he is ‘one of the best in the entire Premier League in his position and is essential in the team led by Bruno Lage’.
The Mendes connection is then brought up, as the agent ‘is essential in this possible operation’, and Barcelona want his client ‘to be the replacement’ for Busquets going forward.
There’s no mention of a price here, but they do bring up the fact Wolves and the La Liga club have recently done deals in the past, namely those of Trincao and Adama Traoré.
