Marc Overmars will have to wait three months before taking over at Newcastle United as part of a clause in his current deal with Ajax.
That’s according to Voetbal Primeur, who drop the information on the Dutchman as part of a look at the challenges facing him should he move to St James Park.
Overmars has been heavily linked with a move to Newcastle over the last week or so, with it believed he is their number one candidate to fill the director of football role and lead their rebuild.
VP look at the tasks he will have to complete should he take up the position, something they believe he is ‘seriously considering’ at this point.
He has a three month notice period at the Dutch club, meaning he cannot move to Newcastle for three months at the earliest.
That’s obviously an issue as it would be the end of January at this point, something the Magpies aren’t going to be happy with, given their determination to spend and improve the squad.
It also effects their search for a new manager, as he would surely want a say on who is appointed as Steve Bruce’s successor.
If that’s the case, Newcastle would have to wait until he could start work in the North East and leave Graham Jones in charge, which, again, is less than ideal.
That remains to be seen either way, but it seems any Newcastle fans expecting Overmars to rock up immediately should he decide to make the move from Ajax, may be left disappointed.
