Chelsea have put the disappointment over their failure to sign Sevilla’s Jules Koundé behind them and have identified Matthijs de Ligt as a new target.

On September 10th, multiple reports in Italy stated the Blues are ‘seriously thinking’ of the Juventus star.

The west London club will look to bolster their defence in the upcoming windows and the ‘first name’ on their list is that of the 22-year-old.

That’s what Calciomercato are reporting and they add the Champions League winners ‘like’ the centre-back ‘very much’.

Having arrived at the Turin club in 2019, the Netherlands international’s contract expires in 2024.

Mino Raiola manages the former Ajax man and in a recent interview, the super-agent said his client could move away from the Serie A side.

According to Tuttosport, De Ligt’s €120m release clause will be activated upon completion of three years with the Old Lady. In other words, he will have a buyout clause from next summer.

The report explains it will be the ‘last opportunity’ for Italian side  to ‘monetise to the maximum’ from the Dutchman’s sale. Juve are aware of the possibility, but are looking to ‘postpone the matter’.

If Chelsea decide to pay his €120m release clause and De Ligt is open to a move, there’s not much Juventus will be able to do in that case.
