For the past week or so, reports coming out of Italy and Switzerland have discussed AS Roma’s desire to sign Arsenal’s Granit Xhaka in the summer transfer window.
It was also stated the Serie A side’s first offer for the midfielder has not met the Gunners’ expectations.
On Tuesday, Corriere dello Sport explained the 28-year-old is ‘tired of playing for Arsenal’ and is now ‘ready for a new challenge’ elsewhere.
Calciomercato has a report on Mikel Arteta’s man, titled: ‘Roma, pressing for Xhaka’. Tiago Pinto, the Italian club’s chief, is ‘trying to speed up’ incoming operations before the start of Euro 2020.
According to the claims, the ‘first name’ Pinto is looking to close is that of the Switzerland international, and Roma have already opened negotiations with the north London club.
Arsenal ‘ask for €20m’ to allow the former Borussia Mönchengladbach man to leave the Emirates, while José Mourinho’s new club, for the moment, reach around €15m plus bonuses.
Roma are ‘thinking of inserting’ their own player, either Cengiz Ünder or Amadou Diawara, as part of the deal to bring Xhaka to the Stadio Olimpico. Whether this will be sufficient to convince Arsenal remains to be seen.
