Earlier today, we covered a story from France explaining how Liverpool have targeted Duje Caleta-Car to bolster their defence late on in the window.

The Croatian defender, for whom West Ham made a late bid last summer, was said to be ready to ‘take off for England’ on Sunday night, but the offer was turned down by Marseille.

The reason for this was because it was too late for them to find a replacement for the player, and that is likely to still be the case today.

That’s because Foot Mercato hint that Liverpool aren’t quite done with this affair, and they expect the Reds to ‘come back to the fore’ on Monday in a last ditch attempt, going off the information from England that it’s between Caleta-Car and Shkodran Mustafi.

As for Marseille in all this, they’re already letting Nemanja Radonjic head off to Hertha Berlin, so the question is asked: can they afford to lose two players this late in the window?

It’s something that’s going to make Pablo Longoria ‘think’ a lot in the coming hours, but with little chance of replacing their Croatian defender, it seems highly unlikely.
