Eric Garcia to Barcelona has been the subject of daily articles in the Catalan sport media for some months, and Manchester City’s signing of Ruben Dias has only encouraged things further.
With the Portuguese defender now being in England to complete his move, as Nicolas Otamendi goes the other way, Pep Guardiola has got the central defensive upgrade he’s spent months hoping for.
That, in turn, makes it much likelier City will compromise on their requests for Garcia.
Tuesday’s edition of Mundo Deportivo reports Barcelona don’t want to pay more than €12m for the defender, and that Manchester City haven’t yet come down from their €30m asking price.
One idea is sending Rafina Alcantara the other way. This potential solution was talked about in Barcelona’s offices on Monday, and it’s thought Rafina would fit into Guardiola’s playing style.
It’s a long shot, but perhaps worth a try for Barca, with the player not thought to be in Ronald Koeman’s plans.
