Manchester United are trying the silent treatment to build pressure on AS Roma, if Sunday claims from Italy are to be believed.
The Serie A side want to sign Chris Smalling, having had the defender on loan with them for the last season. Talks have been ongoing for months, with the two clubs seriously struggling to reach an agreement.
Smalling has been presented as only wanting a move to Roma, which in Italy has been seen as a big advantage in negotiations.
Gazzetta dello Sport report confidence which had built in Rome over the past 48 hours has now ‘waned’.
Roma had put together an offer worth €12m plus more in bonuses for the player, but there hasn’t even been a response to it.
Gazzetta state there’s ‘no answers coming from Manchester’, and the assumption is United have dismissed the offer entirely, expecting more from Roma.
This one should therefore drag on for a little longer, as the two clubs battle to be the winner in negotiations.
