This summer is proving to be an extremely busy one for Everton, who are looking likely to completely overhaul their squad for Carlo Ancelotti.
So far the focus has been on the midfield, with Allan, Abdoulaye Doucouré and James Rodríguez all set to be confirmed this week.
That is unlikely to be end of their business, though, and one area of the team they may look to add in is the goalkeeping department.
Jordan Pickford’s form has seen a significant downturn since his World Cup heroics, but there is little competition in the squad beyond Jonas Lössl.
Adding someone to compete with England’s number one would be a smart move, and according to sources in Spain, they have their eye on Real Sociedad’s Gerónimo Rulli.
The website claims the Blues are looking for a goalkeeper for next season and Rulli is ‘one of the candidates’ they have on their list.
Their idea is to reach an agreement with Sociedad for ‘below €10m’, which would at least allow the Spanish side to recoup the £6.3m they paid Manchester City for him in January 2017.
That is all they offer on the potential transfer, failing to mention whether talks are already underway or whether Everton are just interested at this point.
The rumour, though, is not entirely theirs.
It first appeared on Todo Fichajes, who claimed that Everton were interested and ready to put €10m on the table to get him.
In fact, they claimed that negotiations over a move would ‘begin in the next few days’, suggesting that things were progressing quickly.
However, Todo Fichajes have a more than sketchy history when it comes to transfer rumours, so much so we tend to overlook them any time anything pops up.
Thus, given this rumour appears to have started with them, it’s probably worth taking with a massive pinch of salt at this point.
