Newcastle United star Joelinton gave a short interview to the Brazilian media at the weekend.
Speaking to Jornal do Commercio, the striker has mostly spoken about his relationship with former club Sport Recife, but also had a take on his current situation in Europe.
“The time I spent in Germany was very good for me, because I learned a lot from them. The way to work, to live, and today I feel better in all ways, both on and off the pitch, as a human being, father and athlete,” Joelinton told Jornal do Commercio.
Regarding his arrival to Newcastle, he said: “I’m at a good club, disputing the best league in the world, where the best teams, players, coaches are.
“But it all comes together with pressure to have been the most expensive signing of the club, I know my goals and challenges and I always try to do my best, because that’s how I got here and I will continue with this mentality because only then will things go right.”
On his future in English football, Joelinton says he thinks of many achievements with the Magpies.
“I have many dreams, but the dream of being a Premier League champion, of reaching an international competition with Newcastle. We know it’s not easy, but we have to fight and do our best.”
Regarding a return to Sport in the future, Joelinton says this isn’t really the time to think about it: “I have a great affection for Sport, because it’s the club that opened the doors to me, where I spent five years of my life living at Ilha do Retiro, and I hope to return one day.
“But my thinking now is to continue here in Europe for a lot longer. It’s difficult to talk about the future, but going back there and being able to win an important title with Sport would be very good.”
Following a €44m move from Hoffenheim last summer, Joelinton started the season well, scoring a winner against Tottenham Hotspur in London.
However, that goal in August was the only one he’s scored in the Premier League season so far, despite having featured in all 29 matches played by the Magpies.
