Former Newcastle United striker Joselu says it will be ‘a blast’ if the Magpies are taken over by a Saudi Arabian investment group.
The Magpies are in the midst of a takeover from the Middle Eastern group, who have submitted a bid to current owner Mike Ashley that is being investigated by the Premier League.
Should the takeover be approved, they would instantly become the club with the richest owners in the division, with the new owner’s wealth far surpassing anything else.
The group have already signalled that they have grand plans for Newcastle, with significant investment in the playing squad, the club’s infrastructure and the city as a whole all mooted.
Joselu, who managed seven goals for Newcastle in a 52 game spell between 2017 and 2019, is one who is excited to see what happens.
“The Premier League and the Bundesliga marked me a lot,” he told AS.
“After all, you always learn from all experiences. I scored goals, and I hardened myself as a striker.
“Newcastle is a very big club with incredible fans. The stadium is spectacular, and if this new project goes well, it will be a blast.”
The question now is whether the proposed takeover will be given the green-light despite widespread opposition to it.
At the moment it is looking questionable as the Premier League investigates various claims against the prospective new owners that could see them fail the fit and proper tests in place.
That would be a major blow to Newcastle and their supporters, who for the first time in years appeared to have a real shot at getting rid of Ashley once and for all.
