Alex Grimaldo has a contract with Benfica lasting until June 2023, however, it had been thought that this summer would be a good opportunity to leave, and also for the Lisbon club to make a large amount of cash from the player’s sale.
With 39 appearances so far this season, the left back has shown he’s put his injury worries far behind him, and at 24 years of age is now kicking on with his career.
Friday’s edition of Record covers Napoli and Tottenham links, but they make it clear that no club is currently willing to pay the €35m Benfica are asking for.
Given the nervousness of clubs heading into the next market, Record believe Benfica won’t be getting that amount, and they will therefore refuse to sell the player, keeping him on for a further season.
Tottenham have good contacts with Benfica, although that may not help them in this regard.
Grimaldo is a key player and the Liga NOS side aren’t desperate to see the back of him.
