On March 30th we covered some interesting claims from Italy about Tottenham Hotspur being keen on Simone Inzaghi before they appointed Jose Mourinho.
Given the short time between Spurs firing Mauricio Pochettino and appointing their current manager, the interest must have been before the Argentine was kicked out of his job.
Daniel Levy had been considering Inzaghi, manager of Lazio, and that set some alarm bells off. The manager has done great work and currently has the Rome club in a title battle, with them just one point behind Juventus.
Italian agent Vincenzo Morabito has now backed that claim up. Speaking to Italian radio, and quoted by AreaNapoli, he explained why Inzaghi had turned down Napoli, before adding: “There was a desperate attempt by Tottenham before taking Mourinho.”
Morabito believes Inzaghi will stay at Lazio for a further season, especially if they get the Champions League place their league position deserves.
Maybe then it could be time for Mourinho to move on again, and for Tottenham to again look towards Inzaghi.
