Arsenal were keen on taking Espanyol’s Marc Roca before they signed Dani Ceballos on loan from Real Madrid.
Sport reported on Wednesday the Gunners still remain interested in the midfielder and the 23-year-old ‘already has’ an offer from the north London club.
Another Spanish newspaper AS now partly echo claims made by Sport by stating that there is interest in the transfer, and things are happening behind the scenes.
However, they report the Premier League side didn’t submit an offer for Roca as claimed by Sport. Instead, it’s the other way around as Arsenal have been given an opportunity to sign him.
Roca has a release clause of €40m in his contract with La Liga side, which expires in 2022, and he’s been presented on a plate for Arsenal to sign him, presumably by intermediaries.
Espanyol are at the bottom of the league table and are in danger of dropping down to the second division. The ongoing crisis due to the Coronavirus outbreak will also have an impact on the Spanish club’s finances.
Therefore, Espnayol are ‘obliged to listen to offers’ for Roca, with a sale at less than €40m very possible.
