Last summer, there were a couple of weeks in July when Watford were interested in Lazio’s Bastos.
The centre-back hasn’t been a first-team regular under Simone Inzaghi, making just 14 appearances in all competitions so far, scoring three goals and picking up an assist along the way.
With that in mind, it isn’t surprising to see that Lazio aren’t that bothered about keeping him around if they can sell him off in the summer, which would give Watford another chance at getting their man if they’re still interested.
Back in July, it was reported the Hornets had made contact to try and sign the player, with a €5.5m valuation being touted.
However, at the time, there was some reluctance from Lazio, as they didn’t want to sell him then, with claims they had even ‘refused’ offers from both Watford and Leicester City.
On Wednesday, Corriere dello Sport explain it’s ‘likely’ he will be the one used to make room for a new defender, suggesting he’ll be on the transfer list.
Bastos recently teamed up with Federico Pastorello, who oversaw Romelu Lukaku’s transfer from Manchester United to Inter in the summer, and it’s ‘easy to hypothesise that a solution capable of making everyone happy can be found’.
That’s exactly what Watford will want to hear if they are still keen.
