In Arsenal’s 2-2 draw against Crystal Palace at the Emirates, Granit Xhaka was booed off the pitch by the home supporters. He responded by cupping his ears and the stormed down the tunnel before removing his shirt.
The Switzerland international has been one of the hot topics of discussion for pundits and experts in England over the last few days.
On the other hand, he has received support from the media in his homeland and also from his compatriots, including Gelson Fernandes and Bruno Berner.
The 27-year-old arrived at north London from Borussia Mönchengladbach and the Bundesliga club’s sporting director, Max Eberl has given his verdict on the incident.
“… I am very sorry for him personally. In my view, it is incomprehensible. For me, it is totally incomprehensible from a distance, since I know that in England the fans always support their clubs and the players, especially their captain,” Eberl told Sportbuzzer.
Xhaka spent four years at Mönchengladbach before joining the Premier League side and Eberl was asked if his side would consider bringing the player back to the German club.
“Of course, as a player, I could always picture him as a good player, but it’s difficult to get him back. Not just financially, but also from the point of view of expectations,” he explained.
“Players develop and change. In the end, you could end up doing more damage than you can win, so I’m not really a fan of [player’s] return.”
Unai Emery left Xhaka out of the Gunners squad in their EFL Cup defeat to Liverpool on Wednesday.
