Given the numerous decisions a football player has to make across his career, there are plenty he will end up regretting.
Most will centre around transfers, perhaps he should have made a move and didn’t, or made a move a move and regretted it. For Dani van der Moot, it’s very much the former.
Six years ago the Dutch striker, who was very highly rated at the time, found himself linked with a move to Liverpool.
Reports suggested that then Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers was keen on the striker and wanted to bring him to Anfield as soon as possible.
Ultimately a move never happened, with van der Moot staying at PSV Eindhoven and working his way up through the youth ranks before ending up at second division side Rijnsburgse Boys.
“If I then regret something, it is that I have let Liverpool go,” he told Elf Voetbal.
“There were more clubs from abroad with interest, but Liverpool was the most concrete. I visited with my parents for a day and was given a tour of the stadium, complex and city.
“They showed me what I could expect if I started playing football there. A beautiful day and a wonderful memory forever.”
