Celtic play Barcelona on Tuesday night at the Camp Nou and that’s inevitably led to Brendan Rodgers being in the spotlight. The former Liverpool boss is rebuilding a name for himself at Celtic, and the Champions League gives him a brilliant stage on which to be noticed.

Beating Rangers 5-1 at the weekend was a great result, but getting any sort of result against Barcelona, either home or away, would surely rival that in terms of actual achievement.

On Monday, Rodgers spoke to the media and revealed he wanted to sign a player from Barcelona when he was in charge at Anfield.

Quoted by Catalan newspaper Sport, Rodgers said: “I used to come often to see the lower categories of Barca, Nolito was in the youth, Soriano in the reserve with Thiago… tried to sign him for Liverpool, but couldn’t, and it’s understandable to sign for Bayern.”

Rodgers went on to say that, having studied the Barcelona style for many years, he’s absolutely aware of what his Celtic side will face tonight, but the team aren’t fearful and know their own plan well.
