On May 1st, we carried a report from AS, who explained that Christian Eriksen has a ‘verbal agreement’ with Real Madrid and the latter are ‘negotiating firmly’ with Tottenham Hotspur for his transfer.
In the summer, the Denmark international will only have a year left on his contract with his current employer and an earlier report indicated that he has no plan to sign an extension.
Thursday’s edition of Spanish newspaper AS further goes on to provide an update on what would be his asking price.
It’s clear that chairman Daniel Levy will demand in excess of €100m to sanction the 27-year-old’s sale and a source told AS that Mauricio Pochettino’s side need more than what they received when they sold Gareth Bale (€101m) to the La Liga giants in 2013.
However, the report claims the player has a ‘limited projection’ in the market, which is why his reasonable price should be around €70m.
If Tottenham decide against cashing in from Eriksen’s sale in the next window, the midfielder can leave the Premier League outfit as a free agent in 2020.
Real Madrid are also interested in Chelsea’s Eden Hazard, who has the same contract situation as Eriksen and he is valued at £100m. The Belgian is one of the top 10 players in the world, which is why, according to AS, his asking price is justified.
Spurs don’t care, with AS saying ‘little does it matter’ to Daniel Levy that Eriksen’s price may be too high in comparison to others… because that’s what it is.
This is the message which is being heard during transfer talk at Tottenham’s offices.
Will the 13-time European champions meet demands of the Blues and Tottenham for Hazard and Eriksen? Only time alone will tell us.
