When you see Mattéo Guendouzi, your first thought isn’t ‘he’s a difficult player to deal with’.
However, that’s a reputation that seems to have followed him around since he was younger, but he doesn’t care about that one bit.
Currently showing the world why Arsenal decided to spend £7m on him over the summer, the 19-year-old has quickly found his way into the hearts of the Emirates faithful, and he doesn’t plan on leaving there anytime soon.
Speaking to Canal Football Club, relayed by Sport.fr, the young Gunner fully assumed who he was as a person.
He said: “I haven’t changed. I’ve always stayed the same. I’ve always been myself and I’m not going to change. I’m still young, still only 19 and I still have things to learn, but it’s what managed to get me at Arsenal and in the France U21s.
“If I didn’t have that personality, I wouldn’t be where I am today. I’m going to stay as I am, whether people like it or not.”
You can hardly fault the midfielder for thinking like that, since he’s managed to play himself into Unai Emery’s first-team plans far sooner than anticipated, already making 20 appearances in all competitions this season.
Guendouzi also picked up his first France U21 cap on November 15th in a 2-2 draw against Croatia’s U21s.
