Every time Erik Lamela is interviewed by the Argentina media, we get the same stories.

Local journalists ask him about his love for River Plate, and he’ll end up teasing about a return to his old club.

It happened again this Wednesday, as at Argentina’s training camp, the Tottenham player has spoken to TyC sports.

After saying he’s been speaking to some River players who are set to play the Copa Libertadores second leg against Boca Juniors in a week, he was asked if he fancies a return to the Millonario.

“Hopefully. I always say that if there is a good project, the desire to return not lacking,” Erik Lamela told TyC. “I’m still young but time goes by and each time it gets closer to the time to return. If the club want me, I would be delighted.”

Lamela only got to play for River Plate for a couple of years, and that was at a critical time for the club, when they were relegated in the Argentine league.

He was sold to AS Roma in 2011 in a €17m deal.

But as he’s still 26, it sounds ridiculously early for him to return to South America, at least considering that most players only do that when they’re in their 30s. So maybe Lamela is being carried away by River’s recent success, or he’s just fooling club fans.
