Serious stuff, and probably not having a lot to do with football and transfers, but Sport believe Real Madrid have had a psychosis focused on Barcelona transfer targets since losing out on Neymar.
The Catalan newspaper claim Barcelona now ‘panic’ when a target is revealed by the media, because they know Real Madrid will then move in on the player.
Sport claims that after losing out on Neymar, Florentino Perez took transfers into his own hands, and: ‘Since then, cases like Vinicius or Rodrigo have been followed by Barcelona, their names appeared in SPORT and immediately Florentino went to work to hire them.’
It’s claimed similar has happened with PSG’s Adrien Rabiot.
Barcelona have been linked for some time with the possibility of signing the Frenchman on a free when his PSG contract expires next summer, and Real Madrid are said to have moved in as they see Rabiot as someone who can be a successor for Toni Kroos or Luka Modric.
Barcelona have been linked with the Ajax player for several months, but with Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf reporting Real Madrid are willing to pay €80m, there’s Catalan irritation.
Sport should consider whether Barcelona are being played here. That Real Madrid’s name, and that of other top clubs, is being used to constantly push De Jong’s price up.
And as for Sport claiming Perez gets his Real Madrid transfer target from them, that’s quite some arrogance.
