RC Lens’ Kevin Danso has been linked with a move to Newcastle United since the start of this year. In January, Jeunes Footeux reported the Magpies have their eyes set on the defender.
On April 6th, the same outlet stated the centre-back is attracting interest from more and more clubs and ‘particularly Newcastle’. It was also reported the Ligue 1 side have identified Darmstadt’s Patric Pfeiffer as a potential target to replace him.
Along with Eddie Howe’s side, Inter Milan have been credited with an interest in the 24-year-old. Kronen Zeitung have now published an interview with Danso.
After specifically pointing out the interest shown by Newcastle and the Serie A side to sign him, he was asked about the possibility of leaving Lens in the summer.
“I have a contract with Lens until 2026, my goal is to play regularly in the Champions League. I keep concentrating only on my performance, So I have – in quotation marks – I’ve arrived in world football,” he said.
Newcastle are in contention to qualify for the Champions League. They are in the third spot, three points ahead of fifth placed Tottenham Hotspur, with a game in hand.
Meanwhile, Lens are second in the table, two points ahead of third place Marseille and nine points behind league leaders, Paris Saint-Germain.
When asked about the possibility of his side beating PSG for the title this season, Danso explained: “I don’t know. There I am in the tunnel, I don’t allow myself to be distracted by anything from the outside.”
