Wolverhampton Wanderers looked at CA Osasuna’s David García to bolster their defence in the winter market.
Last December, AS reported the La Liga side were aware of Wolves’ interest in the centre-back and were willing to sanction the sale if his €20m release clause was activated. That didn’t happen in the January window.
Fast forward to March and the 29-year-old was quizzed about Wolves’ interest during an interview with ABC. Apart from Julen Lopetegui’s side, Atlético Madrid and Sevilla were said to be looking at the player.
After naming these three clubs, the newspaper pressed García if he was close to leaving the Spanish club in January.
Responding to that, he said: “I have not been close because it has not occurred. Yes, there has been interest and noise from some teams, but it has stopped there.”
With Wolves among the central defender’s suitors, ABC then quizzed García whether he can resist an opportunity to make a switch to the Premier League.
“It is clear that it is one of the best leagues in the world. The Premier League is the Premier League, but I cannot answer that question because the situation has not occurred,” García explained.
This would indicate there was no approach from Wolves or another English club so far to secure his services in the last window, but the player would be open to a Premier League move should it become a concrete possibility.
García has made 28 appearances in all competitions this season and scored three goals in the process.
