Besiktas manager Abdullah Avci has spoken to media ahead of today’s clash against Wolverhampton Wanderers and believes his players will put in a much-improved display against the Premier League side.
Besiktas have struggled for form this season and they find themselves in the relegation places in the Super Lig after just six games. At the weekend they were demolished 4-1 by Trabzonspor, a performance which has received criticism in the Turkish media.
As covered by Milliyet, Avci said about the clash with Wolves this evening: “We are going to play against a team who are competing in the Premier League. They have made a breakthrough last season but so far this campaign, they haven’t been consistent enough. I hope we will be able to play good football.”
Speaking about their bad start to the season, Avci said luck has not been on their side, but they want to kickstart their campaign with a win against Wolves: “So far, it’s not a great season for us. We are making too many individual mistakes. You can say Karius, you can say Atiba and you can say me.
“But life presents you new opportunities all the time and a game against Wolves is just what we needed. I hope my players will play better football.”
Both clubs lost their first game of the group and tonight’s match is very important for both of their Europa League campaigns.
The game has been getting a lot of attention in the Turkish press and both clubs will want to put their poor early season form behind them.
