Girona have identified Aston Villa’s Àlex Moreno as a target to replace Miguel Gutiérrez, who is expected to leave this summer.
That’s according to Cadena Ser journalist Nil Solà, and he took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to add that Stade de Reims’ Sergio Akieme is also on their list.
Another journalist, Ivan Quirós, took to X to report the La Liga club’s interest in the Aston Villa player.
The left-back has returned to Aston Villa after spending last season on loan at Nottingham Forest and is in his final year of contract at Villa Park.
According to Quirós, the Spanish club are negotiating to try and sign the left-back. Their plan is to either take him on loan by covering part of his salary or sign him permanently on reduced wages, if Moreno were to terminate his contract with the Villans.
Monday’s edition of Mundo Deportivo relays those reports and provides more on this case. They newspaper states Moreno and Akieme are the favourites if Gutiérrez were to be sold in this window.
Girona manager Míchel knows the Aston Villa player first hand as he previously managed him at Rayo Vallecano.
The newspaper now reports Míchel particularly likes the 32-year-old. They add Moreno is willing to join the La Liga club even though other unnamed Spanish clubs are also showing interest in him.
