Wolverhampton Wanderers are pushed forward as one of the contenders from Europe to sign Chivas’ Alexis Vega.
Operating mainly up front and on the left wing, he has managed three goals and four assists from 18 matches this season.
The 25-year-old made it to Gerardo Martino’s Mexico squad for the World Cup and played alongside Wolves’ Raúl Jiménez in their goalless draw against Poland.
Prior to El Tri’s 2-0 defeat to Argentina, the forward’s father, Ernesto Vega, told ESPN that his son is in talks with European clubs.
“He needs to leave the Mexican league, he is ready to compete in any league. There are already talks with teams, they do not specify, they have not yet materialised, but hopefully first [he] will have the opportunity to fulfil that dream of going to Europe,” Ernesto said.
According to Reforma, relayed by EL10.com, Vega’s options include Wolves, Sevilla, Real Betis and PSV Eindhoven. These are the teams from the continent that are already looking at the player.
Although Julen Lopetegui’s side are ‘interested’ in Vega, it’s claimed the Eredivisie club have an agreement in place with Chivas for Vega. If Wolves wish to sign the Mexican in January, then they will have to find a way to get ahead of PSV.
Vega has over 18 months left on his contract at Chivas.
