Wolverhampton Wanderers could bring former Leicester City star Kasper Schmeichel back to the Premier League in the summer window.

The latest claims in the UK have stated Wolves have set their sights on the 37-year-old. This is backed up Bold.dk, who add the Premier League side’s ‘interest is real’.

The goalkeeper’s contract at Anderlecht expired on June 30th and he’s unlikely to continue in Belgium, considering the Jupiler Pro League side can’t meet his salary requests.

This allows Wolves or any other club to sign the Denmark international on a free transfer.

With regards to Gary O’Neil’s side, it’s claimed they’ve held talks with the stopper over a potential free deal. Bold.dk make no mention if the parties have made progress or if the English club are willing to meet his financial demands.

Schmeichel has been the first-choice goalkeeper for Denmark for several years. They were knocked out of the Euros by Germany last week and he started every fixture for the national team.

The player wants to continue to represent Denmark, which is why he has not entertained approaches from Saudi Arabia.

“The level of the league is not on par with the leagues in Europe. Therefore, it will also cost the national team place if you switch to a league at a lower level,” he told Bold.dk before the Euros.

José Sá has been the main goalkeeper at Wolves, and Schmeichel will have to compete with him if he decides to move to Molineux.
