While Wolverhampton Wanderers and Fulham have been fighting over the potential signing of Matheus Nunes, they were also in a tussle for another Portuguese midfielder.

That man is Guilherme Guedes, more commonly known as Gui, who is contract to Vitoria, but it appears both Wolves and the Cottagers are set to miss out on him.

This comes from Portuguese journalist Pedro Sepulveda, who took to Twitter to announce the 20-year-old is ‘on his way’ to Almeria in Spain.

It’s a cheap deal, too, as the La Liga side will pay €3m up front, but could end up paying another €2m if certain bonuses are triggered.

He will sign a six-year deal there, thus snubbing Wolverhampton Wanderers and Fulham, who ‘also tried to sign’ him alongside Lille.

How serious the interest from Molineux and Craven Cottage was isn’t revealed, but if they did try and give it a go, perhaps the lure of regular first-team football cost them.

Either way, Wolves and Fulham have bigger fish to fry right now, like Matheus Nunes.
