Bruno Lage’s relationship with Wolverhampton Wanderer’s Portuguese contingent has put him in line as a potential replacement for Fernando Santos.
That’s according to Record, who say the former Wolves boss is behind José Mourinho in the FPF’s plans to replace their departed coach.
The newspaper explain that ‘there is no doubt’ that Mourinho is the ‘main option’ to succeed Santos following his departure after their World Cup disappointment.
Securing the Roma coach will be no easy task, though, and Lage now ‘appears’ as an alternative to him.
According to Record, the former Wolves boss is ‘well established’ with the FPF structure, whose hierarchy was impressed by a recent appearance on Channel 11 which saw him explaining his ‘training methodology’.
Another aspect in his favour is the fact he knows a large part of the Portuguese set up thanks to his time at Wolves and Benfica, which saw him working several who make up the current squad.
For example, he worked with Rui Patrício, Jose Sa, Matheus Nunes and Ruben Neves at Wolves and that is seemingly considered a major plus point for him if Portugal cannot convince Mourinho.
